Tips for cleaning up and sorting a channel list

A practical order of work for getting from a few thousand scanned channels to a short list you actually use.

A fresh satellite scan can leave you with thousands of channels, most of which you will never watch. Working in the order below gets you to a tidy list quickly.

Keep the original file. Copy the zip from the TV to a safe place before you start. Inside the editor you can undo every step until you download.

Delete in bulk first

Each cleanup button shows how many channels it will remove before you press it.

  1. Delete scrambled. Pay-TV channels you have no card for only show a black screen. This is usually the biggest cut.
  2. Delete duplicates. Many channels are broadcast more than once. The editor compares names without regard to case, accents, spaces and the words HD or SD. From each group it keeps one channel: free over scrambled, then HD over SD, then the one with the lower number.
  3. Delete radio if you do not listen to radio on the TV.
  4. Delete unnamed and Delete test channels. These are leftovers and technical feeds.

If a button removed something you wanted, press Undo, or open the list of deleted channels and restore single entries.

Then delete by hand

Use the search box to find groups, for example a language or a broadcaster name. Tick the box at the left of the search box to select everything shown, then delete the selection.

Sort what is left

A simple approach: move your favourites to the top in the order you want, and leave the rest as it is.
